Linux LiveCD with Alliance-5.0

This looks interesting. From the Alliance Users Mailing list:

----
Hi all,

I have just developed Linux LiveCD with Alliance-5.0 etc., for my next semesters class. This liveCD is based on SLAX-3.0.25. (see http://slax.linux-live.org/ for usage of SLAX)

The package (ISO file: about 300MB) is downloadable from http://shimizu-lab.dt.u-tokai.ac.jp/index.html

You can copy and re-distribute it freely.

After booting, login as root (SLAX way). Then you can start gui environment with 'go' command, and you will run a demo in the synthe-vhdl directory.

# cd synthe-vhdl
# make dreal

This will synthesize a simple HDL downto LSI chip layout.

EDA tools including:
sfl2vh: SFL to VHDL converter
sfl2vl: SFL to Verilog converter
Alliance-5.0 :-)
Icarus Verilog-0.7
GTKwave

I wrote some documents in the Documents direcotry of the CDROM. But PDF tutorials are written in Japanese for my students.

I hope this package will be useful for EDA learners. Any suggestions and/or hints for improvement will be appreciated.

gEDA Slashdotted

What better way to open the new website then to pass along the discussion on gEDA progress at Slashdot.

Stuart Brorson writes "At long last, today's EE Times published an article about the gEDA project. The gEDA project has developed a mature, GPL'd, Linux-based suite of tools useful for electronic design. Using the gEDA tools, you can take a circuit design from schematic capture, through simulation, to PC board layout and fab.

CPU Cycles

When you need some good economical CPU Cycles for EDA tasks -- it's hard to beat a Linux solution... More Linux and EDA coming here soon...
